Steve Jobs 2.0 has been found in Sydney, but instead of technology he’s responsible for Roxy Jacenko’s taut abs.
Ben Lucas, personal trainer and co-founder of Sydney’s Flow Athletic, has been chosen by Apple to attend its educational session in Hollywood next week.
Despite being more into cardio than coding, his likeness to the Apple co-founder goes further than his penchant for wearing sneakers to work.
“I’ve always used Apple gear and the Apple Watch is already helping me personally as well as the business, so I can’t wait to see what I can learn from how others are using it,” he told Fairfax Media of the mystery trip, which he’s only had a week to prepare for.
Being selected by Apple to take part in the event is a career highlight for the trainer who has more than 20 years experience and is now set to launch Flow Athletic’s specialised one-on-one personal training space in Paddington.
In Sydney, a town where you can’t swing an About Life sustainable shopping bag without hitting a PT, Lucas is in high-demand especially with the A-list, such as Triple M presenter and Sports Sunday host Emma Freedman and publicist Jacenko.
Whether it’s leading a spin class or encouraging Freedman to up the free weights, his handy work is now all over Instagram thanks to his socially savvy clients.
Jacenko now trains with Lucas four times a week where he puts her through weights and resistance training.
If PR doesn’t work out for her, Lucas believes she’d be just as successful as a professional athlete.
“She’s such a determined hard worker and now, since her unfortunate breast cancer diagnosis, she’s found a way to channel some of that work rate that she once left for the office into her own training and health,” he said. “She’s always had the focus, tenacity and determination but it was never focused on her health before. Since her illness she’s realised the importance of that and she’s turned just some of her energy to her training with incredible results.”
Despite regularly posing with burgers, donuts and other processed foods, which are products of the brands she represents, and posting those photos to her 181,000 Instagram, Lucas says “she’s eating well, she’s really focused”.
