SOAPLAND relationships are not for the faint-hearted.
But which romances have blossomed behind-the-scenes – we take a look…
Laura Norton and Mark Jordon
Former Heartbeat actor Mark met Laura (Kerry Wyatt) during a brief stint in the Dales, where he played Kerry’s other half Dan Spencer’s brother Daz.
He’s now back and the pair have been reportedly dating for two years.
The couple regularly post loved-up snaps on their respective social media accounts, with Laura calling him “by far the best person I know” and Mark referring to her as his “other half”.
Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden
These two first met on the set of Emmerdale in 2006 and got together a few years later.
The couple, who play Debbie Dingle and David Metcalfe, now have two children, but are yet to tie the knot.
Charley told Inside Soap magazine: “A wedding isn’t the most important thing at the moment.”
Matthew added: “We want to get married, but another baby will be first!”
Lesley Dunlop and Chris Chittell
Yet another couple to have hooked up in the Dales are Lesley and Chris, who play Brenda Hope and Eric Pollard.
They fell for each other long before their characters started up a romance on screen.
Both of their alter egos have since married other people on the show – Brenda’s with Bob while Eric was recently widowed when Val died – but they got wed in real life last year.
Chris has singled out meeting Lesley as a highlight of his 30 years on Emmerdale. Aww!
Anthony Cotton and Peter Eccleston
Sean Tully may be unlucky in love on the cobbles, but in real life Anthony’s met his Prince Charming.
He started dating long-term partner Peter in 2005, after they met when he was working as an assistant props buyer on Corrie.
While they have exchanged rings, they haven’t yet made it down the aisle.
Georgia Taylor and Mark Letheren
She’s dating her sister’s ex-husband on screen, but there’s no such scandal in Georgia Taylor’s love life.
The actress, who plays Toyah Battersby on Coronation Street, has been with fellow actor Mark since they met on the set of Casualty in 2008.
She was playing medic Ruth Winters, while Mark made a guest appearance as psychiatrist Ben Harding.
The couple and their two cats share a home in Bristol, with Georgia nipping back to see him when she’s not filming in Manchester.
Jane Danson and Robert Beck
Like her on-screen sister, Jane’s character Leanne Battersby has not had an easy ride when it comes to fellas.
Thankfully she’s happy and settled with former Brookside star Robert Beck in real life, whom she met at the British Soap Awards in 1999.
Though Jane had lusted after Rob long before meeting him in person, having fancied his Brookie character Peter Harrison when she was a teenager!
They wed in 2005 and have two children.
Sophie Austen and Shayne Ward
While their soaps are separated by the M56 – with Shayne in Corrie and Sophie a former Hollyoaks star – this pair managed to find each other through friends.
Sophie gave birth to their daughter Willow in December last year.
Shayne tweeted they were “besotted and in love with the deepest of hearts”.
Maybe his cheating Weatherfield alter ego Aidan should take a few tips!
Amanda Clapham and Alfie Brown-Sykes
These two Hollyoaks lovebirds got together in real life after their characters fell for each other on screen.
Amanda (Holly Cunningham) and Alfie (Jason Roscoe) are still going strong, despite things fizzling out between their alter egos.
They’ve recently extended their family… to welcome an adorable French bulldog, called Frankie.
Amy-Leigh Hickman and Shaheen Jafargholi
Amy-Leigh and Shaheen met last year while both appearing on EastEnders.
While Amy-Leigh’s character Linzi Bragg played Jay Brown’s underage girlfriend, Shaheen’s alter ego Shakil was recently embroiled in a revenge porn plot following the breakdown of his relationship with Bex Fowler.
The pair are one of the youngest real life soap couples, but they’re clearly head over heels about each other – judging by the loved-up snaps on social media.
